Student Procedures and Expecations
Morning Procedures
1. Enter quietly
2. Make lunch choice at door.
3. Empty and put away your backpack.
4. Organize your desk—homework, books, sharpen pencils and supplies.
5. Place any notes from home in the notes basket or give directly to your teacher.
6. Fill your water bottle and take a bathroom break if needed.
7. Gather your materials for your first class and be ready to learn upon returning from specials.
8. Broadcast or school store if it is your assigned day. Steps 1-7 must be completed and you must sign out before leaving the classroom.
9. Work on Picture of the Day in your composition book.
Announcements
1. Silence during the announcements. Absolutely NO talking.
2. Students may continue to work on morning assignments WHILE listening.
Tests/Quizzes
1. Keep all answers covered at all times.
2. Talking or moving about during a test results in your paper being taken and a possible zero.
3. Keep your eyes on your own paper.
4. Turn your paper over when your work is complete. Tests and quizzes will be collected when everyone is done.
5. Read silently.
Exiting Classroom
1. Collect all necessary books, papers, and supplies.
2. Line up.
3. Silence.
4. Always walk on the right side of the hall.
5. Join the line from the rear-no cutting
6. Face the front in a straight, silent, single file line.
7. The last person out of the classroom closes the door and turns off the lights.
Hall Procedures
1. Walk on the right side of the hall.
2. Face the front in a straight, single-file line.
3. Keep your hands to yourself.
4. Walk silently.
5. If you have to join in line, do so at the end. No cutting or saving places in lines for friends.
WHEN GOING TO AND COMING FROM SPECIALS, WE EXPECT ALL 5th GRADE STUDENTS TO ADHERE TO THE HALLWAY PROCEDURES. You should walk down the hallway silently and NOT disturb the classes that you are passing. Anyone found violating this procedure will be asked to miss recess. On occasion, we do have to practice this skill as a grade level when the majority of the 5th grade students fail to follow this procedure.
Restroom
1. Walk into the restroom quietly.
2. Use the toilet and sink appropriately and flush the toilet.
3. Wash your hands.
4. Use the hand dryer appropriately.
5. Walk quietly out of the restroom.
Playground
1. Follow hall procedures to playground area.
2. DO NOT go to recess UNLESS a teacher is with you.
3. Always stay where you can see a teacher, and a teacher can see you.
4. Use equipment properly.
· Walk far from moving swings.
· Swing forward and backward only.
· Stop the swing to get out-no jumping.
· Form a line to get on the equipment if it is crowded.
· Leave wood chips and rocks on the ground.
· Maximum of two people in tire swing.
· Do not stand on the play dome.
5. When you hear the first whistle being blown, you stop what you are doing and report to the outdoor auditorium area QUIETLY.
6. Gather belongings and equipment before coming inside. (Students will not be allowed to return to the playground area for personal belongings.)
7. Do NOT go back into the building without asking a teacher’s permission.
8. DO NOT go into your classroom until a teacher tells you to do so.
Lunchroom Responsibilities
1. Enter quietly and stay in a straight, silent line.
2. Students who have brought lunch may sit down at a table. Others line up at the appropriate door (1st and 2nd choice or salad bar).
3. Speak so that the server can hear you.
4. Speak and point to your selections.
5. Always leave the condiment cart clean (take your wrappers or bags).
6. Walk quietly in the cafeteria.
7. Use good table manners-no sharing or playing with your food.
8. Use inside voices, speaking only to people who are seated close to you.
9. Wait until an adult gives you permission to leave the table to purchase ice cream.
10. Stay seated until your teacher or another adult dismisses you.
11. Clean your table area and floor before leaving. Respect the Cafe Leaders in your classroom.
12. Dispose of your dishes and silverware in the appropriate place.
13. ENTER the building from walking SILENTLY. Once inside the building from walking, all hallway procedures MUST be followed.
End of Day Procedures
1. Ensure that you have recorded all homework assignments in your agenda.
2. Retrieve your backpack from the back of the room and pack up all necessary books and assignments to go home.
3. Straighten and clean up around you. Throw away scraps of paper. Place chairs on desks.
4. DO NOT leave the classroom until your designated bell has been given/heard and the teacher gives you permission to leave.
Assembly
1. Follow hall procedures to assembly area.
2. Enter silently.
3. Sit in your assigned row - on your bottom, facing the front.
4. Respond appropriately to the program - no booing.
5. Remain seated until directed to leave.
6. Follow exiting directions - leave silently.
7. Exit using hall procedures.
Fire
1. Form an orderly line by the door when the fire alarm sounds.
2. Move quickly and quietly out the rear door to the designated spot outside.
3. Quickly get in numerical order or with buddy and remain quiet.
4. Listen at all times.
5. Remain in line with hands at side.
6. Re-enter classroom when the signal is given.
