Meet Mrs. Borders
My name is Leigh Anne Borders. I graduated from Fayette County High School in 1989. After attending Valdosta State University for two years, I transferred to Mercer University to pursue my lifelong dream of being an educator after many years working as an assistant manager at a music store. In 1997 I received my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education. Not too long after that, I received my Master’s in Educational Leadership. My teaching career consist of teaching Pre-Kindergarten, 5th grade, 4th grade, and 3rd grade. This is my 22nd year of teaching.
My family consists of my husband, Mike, to whom I have been married to for nearly 27 years (August 21) as well as two handsome boys. Trey is engaged to be married this Fall and is currently going to school to pursue a career in IT. Glynn recently received a promotion at Kroger to Seafood Manager. I also have a very sweet niece, Melanie, who is like a daughter to me. She lives locally with her two children, Eden (2 years) and Israel (3 years old). They are like my very own grandchildren that I LOVE to spoil! We also have two wonderful little dogs named Zoey and Gucci.
I recently obtained my Gifted and Coaching Endorsements from Griffin RESA and look forward to getting my SST Endorsement this year. I had the honor of participating the Fayette County 2016 Administrative Internship and have been selected as Peeples Teacher of the Year.
In my spare time (what spare time I do have) is spent online researching ideas for school (and trying them in the classroom), pinning things on Pinterest, and blogging. I am the owner of a blog called Living One Full Life. I also enjoy going to many different types of cultural venues/events like museums, plays, movies, symphonies, etc… Now that I have two grandchildren (wink wink), I have found that I have fallen in love with Disney all over again. I also do not mind doing a little shopping and reading!
I am looking forward to a terrific year with you and your child!

Meet Mrs. Perrotta
Hi! My name is Gina Perrotta. I was born and raised on Long Island, New York with my older sister Tara. I attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree and ESOL endorsement in elementary education.
After living and teaching first grade in Florida for one year, my husband Joe and I moved to Georgia. Since 2007, I have taught first grade, third grade, and fifth grade.
In 2010, I earned my Master’s degree in reading education from the University of West Georgia and in the summer of 2012, I obtained my Specialist degree in early childhood education, also from the University of West Georgia. In the fall of 2013, I completed my gifted education endorsement, and decided to take a temporary break from higher learning, so my husband and I could start our family! We welcomed our first child, John Victor on March 1, 2014. He is currently 5 years old and he cracks us up every day!
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, taking pictures of Johnny, decorating, organizing, watching HGTV, and going to the movies.
I am so happy to be a part of the Peeples Elementary School family and thank you for the opportunity to work with your children this year!

Meet Dr. Smith
Hello, my name is Melissa Smith and I am excited to share the last year of elementary school with your child and your family. It is a year of stupendous growth, learning more responsibility and accountability, and preparing for middle school. I understand this transition from elementary school to middle school as I have an eighth grade daughter, Emily, seventh grade twin boys, Jacob and Andrew, and a sixth grader, Carson. Little Carter, who is a first grader here at Peeples is our youngest. When I am not at school, I can be found on the soccer field as four of our five children play soccer. We also have an aspiring Eagle Scout. Needless to say we understand the busyness that comes with extra curricular activities and school.
My professional experience began at Poplar Road Elementary in Coweta County in 2004 after obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Georgia State University. I taught at Poplar Road Elementary for 17 years. During that tenure, I taught kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grade.
While teaching at Poplar Road I furthered my education at Nova Southeastern University, earning a Masters in Reading Education,
then earning a Specialist in Elementary Education from University of West Georgia, and lastly, a Doctorate in School Improvement with a specialization in Reading also from University of West Georgia. I also hold numerous endorsements which include a Math Instructional endorsement, Science Instructional endorsement, Reading Specialist endorsement, and an Educational Leadership endorsement. I earned all these endorsements from University of West Georgia. This Fall I will begin working on my Gifted Instructional endorsement from Griffin RESA.
In 2017 I was selected to participate in a year long Global Learning Fellowship which culminated with a two week to China during the summer of 2017. Through this experience I learned a great deal about global education and our globalized economy. This past year I was selected as a fellow in the Empactico Global Educational Fellowship. My class was partnered with other classes around the world and we discussed and worked on various problems dealing with environment.
I also had the honor of being named Teacher of the Year at Poplar Road and in 2017 I was chosen as one of 43 educators from across the nation for the California Casualty Awardee and then chosen from those 43 to be named as one of five Horace Mann Teaching Excellence Awardees. I have also served on several state educational boards and now I am currently a council woman on the State of Georgia School Turnaround Advisory Committee.
In closing, I am thrilled to work with your child and family. I look forward to a rewarding and fun filled year!
